Simmering down common misconceptions.

I've heard so many misconceptions when it comes to living in Saudi Arabia. From women not having the freedom to go out to not having enough activities to keep us entertained to constantly being asked if riding on camels is a way of transportation, I've come to the conclusion that people only hear what they want to hear. Being as unbiased as I can be, living in Saudi Arabia is way different than what people have made it out to be.

Every place has it's good and not so good sides and focusing on the good side from time to time can automatically make us better people. One of the most common misconceptions people have is the fact that wearing a hijab calls out the country for being "conservative" when really it's a form of modesty that should be respected worldwide. This, however, doesn't prevent us from carrying out our normal day to day activities. Transportation has been made very easy for going to offices, malls, restaurants, schools at any time of the day through Uber, Kareem, and taxis.

Saudi Arabia is well known for how extravagant it can be from luxurious malls to huge supermarkets to lavish places to enjoy with your friends and family, there's not much room for missing out on the fun stuff!

One of my personal favorites would have to be a small cafe called Wooden Bakery that's about a 5minute walk from where I live. I usually walk there with my neighbors for a midnight snack which quickly turns into eating way more than intended.
We've tried almost all the items available there and it has to be my go-to place anytime I feel low.
It's pretty impossible to resist sugary treats right? People often watch football matches or spend some time reading there.

Moreover, there's a lot of Islamic and Arab history here with vast deserts from the north to the south and breathtaking beaches on the Red Sea! One of the many reasons to visit the desert means going on buggy and camel rides which is way more fun than it sounds! Why build a Snowman when we can build our very own Sandman? Above all, there's so much peace surrounding us that it's impossible to not feel at home here.

Lastly, one of my favorite outdoor activity would have to be cycling in the park next to the beautiful library. It's usually a relaxing spot for many people and includes fun activities like riding bikes and driving mini cars for kids!

The point is, if we chose to constantly focus on the downsides, then no place will ever be good enough for us.

Life as we know it.

The term YOLO sounds so simple yet so particularly deep. Sure, we live only once but we also experience each day once which sounds bizarre considering we live every day in the same pattern.  Every day that we live, every minute that passes by never comes back almost like we’ll never relive today again even if tomorrow feels the same!   This makes me wonder how a small improvement to a 24 hour day can change the way we live it. I sometimes find myself pondering life. How it’s the perfect balance of consistency and inconsistency, how one decision made today can completely alter the route of your life the next day. It’s the perception of realizing that there are so many people in this world who we’ll never know, who will never have any impact on us or whose life we’ll never be a part of.   It’s the notion that no matter how slow or fast time flies, it’s always somehow moving forward and never stationary. It’s the awareness that happiness can be attained if we’r...

Stop trying to reach other people’s expectations.

I consider myself to be an observant person and quite recently I started noticing how some people put in so much effort trying to please others that they often forget who they are in the process.   I’ve had a few friendships in the past where I used to do everything to keep that person in my life, to the point where I’d stop caring about my own feelings and some people took that as an opportunity to mold me into the person they wanted me to be. Granted, I was a kid back then...still am but I never thought it would actually have an effect on me until now.   It’s necessary to put in your effort to make friendships work but honestly, if you don’t see those efforts being reciprocated and appreciated, then it’s not long before everything falls apart.   I have a friend who recently had a fall out with someone she considered her best friend. And initially, everything felt okay but as the years passed she began to realize how it was always her constant efforts that ...

Getting to know me!✨

Hey, this is my very first blog post and the last time I felt this much pressure was probably during my Alevel board exams!   So to begin with I would love to introduce myself, I'm a regular 17year old who wants to stay anonymous for the time being. I'm in my last year of Alevels so that means alot of big changes are coming my way! The thought of graduating actually feels unreal. I still remember the time I used to look at all the seniors graduating and think to myself "it's probably gonna take ages to get there and it looks like so much work" but now here I am graduating in just a few months! Time flies when you're busy worrying about why time isn't flying fast enough haha!  I also love being sorrounded by nature! I can't begin to tell you how many times I've stopped the most important work I'm doing just to stare at fluffy clouds and pretty sunsets!  I feel nature really connects humans to the beautiful big world we live in and sets ...
